UBC Atmospheric Science (ATSC) Program

Welcome to the Atmospheric Science (ATSC) Program

Under construction.

WELCOME to the Atmospheric Science (ATSC) Program. My name is Prof. Roland Stull. I am the chair of ATSC. I look forward to meeting you in person, or via Zoom, and perhaps seeing you in one of my classes. You can reach me at roland.stull <@> ubc.ca .

Atmospheric Science, also known as meteorology, is the study and forecasting of weather and climate. At UBC, atmospheric science is part of the Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences (EOAS) Department. But professors who contribute to this program span many other departments (see the "Profs" tab above).

The Atmospheric Sciences (ATSC) specialization at UBC is a small but vibrant program. We offer :

Please see the "BSc" and the "MSc & PhD" tabs above for advice on which courses to take. A full list of courses is given in the "Courses" tab above.

In addition to traditional weather forecasting jobs at the Meteorological Service of Canada (Environment & Climate Change Canada, ECCC), there are a wide range of jobs with industry, environmental consulting companies, and other government agencies. You can find a partial list of organizations that hire meteorologists at the "Jobs" tab above.

The undergraduates have a UBC Storm club. Their aim is to provide a space for all atmospheric science students and other students interested in atmospheric science to connect. They organize social events and field trips, and participate in weather briefings. Their members can offer more advice on how to navigate through the degree program. You can reach them via email <stormclububc@gmail.com> or find them on instagram at stormclububc .

Cheers,
Roland Stull
